With their mix of harmonised vocals, guitar, bass, amplified foot percussion and harmonica The Poptonics produce an exciting full band sound unlike any other duo you’ve heard- with not a backing track in sight.
The Beatles, Stones, Abba, Bowie, The Bee Gees and even The Village People are given big musical productions that have audiences dancing and singing along, many of them joining in with maracas, shakers and bongos that the band share with their enthusiastic fans. Classics from The Everly Brothers, Neil Young and Neil Sedaka are faithfully, maybe less ironically, but no less powerfully, performed.
The Poptonics have been entertaining people in Dorset for over two years and are regularly re-invited to play pubs, clubs, small festivals and private functions where their unique renditions of legendary pop melodies from the 50s, 60s and 70s are always fantastically well received by audiences of all ages.
Tony Watts (vocals, guitar, foot percussion, kazoo) and Mike McCabe (vocals, bass, harmonica, foot percussion) have been playing together for over ten years in a variety of band line-ups. The Poptonics were formed after Tony came back from busking in Spain fired up by a vision of minimalist musical authenticity which he knew they could both realise. Very quickly, the phrase ‘to Poptonic a song’ acquired a special meaning in their musical lexicon.
